Jesus Looks Good In You
“Jesus looks good in you.”
I consider this one of the highest compliments I have received. What the person meant who said it was that I made Jesus look good, I made people want to know Him. I made them want to follow Him.
As Jesus followers, everywhere we go, we sign His signature. We represent who He is to the world. And I think it is our responsibility to make him look good. Other people should look at us and be tempted to live this Jesus-filled life.
Once, someone told me that they felt spiritually convicted not to watch “Lord Of The Rings” because it had magic in it, even though J.R.R. Tolkien was in fact a Christian author, not to mention that the whole basis of that story is about good overcoming evil.
People have their own convictions for personal reasons, and as people of God, we absolutely should have high standards for what we watch and set before our eyes. But, I think we need to be careful that we are not representing Christianity to the world as a box of right and wrongs. And, we need to be careful that we are not trying to find right standing and holiness with God in what we deny ourselves. To quote one of my favorite movies, “Chocolat”, “I think we can’t go around measuring goodness by what we don’t do, what we deny ourselves, what we resist, and who we exclude. I think we’ve got to measure goodness by what we embrace, what we create, and who we include.”
Religiosity will never turn hearts to Jesus. It’s His love, mercy and kindness that will draw people to Him. These are the things we must represent to the world. We must love as He has loved and embrace others as He did. We must live as free people. (“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” - John 8:36) We are not bound by the old law. (“Know that a person is not justified by the works of the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law, because by the works of the law no one will be justified.” -Galatians 2:16) When we believe that we are the righteousness of Jesus, we no longer need to compensate for our humanity by putting strict rules and restrictions on ourselves but instead bask in His love and fully accept that we are His and then allow Him to constantly be working within us and through us. And when Jesus is within you, nothing could be more alluring than that.
